As of 2019, there are 11 different Government agencies participating in the SBIR program. 

The Government agencies utilize the SBIR program to support their missions.  From the agencies’ websites, their missions, as well as their sub-agencies are as follows:

•  Department of Defense (DoD): The mission of the Department of Defense is to provide the military forces needed to deter war and to protect the security of our country.

• Health and Human Services (HHS): To enhance the health and well-being of all Americans, by providing for effective health and human services and by fostering sound, sustained advances in the sciences underlying medicine, public health, and social services.

•  National Institute of Health (NIH): To seek fundamental knowledge about the nature and behavior of living systems and the application of that knowledge to enhance health, lengthen life, and reduce illness and disability. 

• Department of Energy (DoE): The mission of the Energy Department is to ensure America’s security and prosperity by addressing its energy, environmental and nuclear challenges through transformative science and technology solutions. 

• National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA): To advance and communicate scientific knowledge and understanding of the Earth, the solar system, and the universe and use the environment of space for research. To explore, use, and enable the development of space for human enterprise.  To research, develop, verify, and transfer advanced aeronautics, space, and related technologies. 

• National Science Foundation (NSF): To promote the progress of science; to advance the national health, prosperity, and welfare; to secure the national defense. 

• US. Department of Agriculture (USDA): We provide leadership on food, agriculture, natural resources, rural development, nutrition, and related issues based on public policy, the best available science, and effective management. 

• Department of Homeland Security (DHS) : With honor and integrity, we will safeguard the American people, our homeland, and our values. 
• Science and Technology Directorate (S&T): To enable effective, efficient, and secure operations across all homeland security missions by applying scientific, engineering, analytic, and innovative approaches to deliver timely solutions and support departmental acquisitions. 

• Domestic Nuclear Detection Office (DNDO): Implementing domestic nuclear detection efforts for a managed and coordinated response to radiological and nuclear threats, as well as integration of federal nuclear forensics programs.
•  Department of Commerce (DoC): To create the conditions for economic growth and opportunity. 

• National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA): Science, Service and Stewardship. To understand and predict changes in climate, weather, oceans and coasts; 2. To share that knowledge and information with others; and 3. To conserve and manage coastal and marine ecosystems and resources. 

• National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST): To promote U.S. innovation and industrial competitiveness by advancing measurement science, standards, and technology in ways that enhance economic security and improve our quality of life.

•  Department of Transportation (DoT): To ensure our nation has the safest, most efficient and modern transportation system in the world; that improves the quality of life for all American people and communities, from rural to urban, and increases the productivity and competitiveness of American workers and businesses.

• Department of Education: To promote student achievement and preparation for global competitiveness by fostering educational excellence and ensuring equal access.

• Environmental Protection Agency: To protect human health and the environment.
